 Hawaii December 2020
In Planning - Reservations Made

(The big challenge meeting all the Covid 19 Hawaii Testing Requirements)

Itinerary

Dec 4th                Boise to Kauai
Dec 4 - 17            Condo Poipo Kauai
Dec 18 - 20          Oahu

Complete change of plans
4 Days before we left, Kauai, locked down, even with a Covid 19 negative test still a 14 day quarantine.  No leaving your room, no rental car, no grocery store, no beach - Nothing.
So off to the Big Island we go.

So plan B:

Dec 6th to the Big Island
Dec 6th - Dec 12th Kona Island Resort - Kailua-Kona
Dec 12th - Dec 18th Paniolo Greens - Waikoloa

We took our Covid 19 test on Dec 3th, Debbie got a negative result back at 5:30 am on Dec 6th the day of our 9 am flight.  No test back for Bill yet, but we are positive people so we got on the flight to Seattle anyway, knowing we could not go on without the test - Well technically Bill can't go on - maybe I should ask Debbie what her plan is :-) .  As soon as the wheels touch down in Seattle I was on my phone checking - Test back and Negative.  So be are both going to the Big Island, still did not ask Debbie her plans if my test did not come back - Don't ask questions you don't want to hear the answer to :-).  Upload my test to Hawaii website and the Alaska lounge in the airport was kind enough to let me email the test to them and they printed it for me (Debbie already had done that - another reason not to have asked the question).

Off to the Big Island - the paper work and screening at the Kona airport was very efficient, they are using the National Guard to help with the screening.  Rented a car and off to the Condo.  The airport has changed a lot since we flew in last time - 42 years ago on our Honeymoon.

We had reservation about traveling during Covid 19.

But the on the flight over everybody was very consensus about mask wearing.

They are also very serious about masks and cleaning in the island businesses and restaurants.  We saw 100% mask wearing, even outside whenever people were close on the street or beach.  When you could distance or seated at a restaurant people would remove their mask, but immediately mask up if someone came around.

No chin wearing or noses uncovered.

Sanitizer was required to enter any business or restaurant and again it looked like 100% of the people were onboard and doing their part.

It made us feel better about our traveling at this time.
And Hawaii has low cases and very low deaths, so it is working.

The condo require our covid 19 tests to check in.  The unit is huge - like Debbie said we could live in this place.

Debbie and I spent several days just driving around and exploring different beach areas.  Very nice winter break.

Nick and Heather came over for a few days Dec 9-11 to spend some time with us.

View of the bay

It is one of the best all around spots we have ever been.

Good fish & Corel viewing some deeper areas, but very calm water for Debbie to be comfortable in staying in a long time.  Rocky shore, but as the name implies there is an area that has some very nice steps into the water.  Not very crowded, but I would think it gets really busy in normal times with a normal amount of tourists, but not in the time of Covid 19.

We went to Several other beach areas and looked around.

And of course with Nick and Heather explored brew pubs around the island.

Debbie, Bill, Heather and Nick at Ola Brewery and Taproom

Nick and Heather went home and the next day we moved to a new place Inland and on a golf course with a good view.

It was also closer to one of the brew pubs we had visited so we went back.

We slowed our pace, spend time at several beaches.

Laying on the beach enjoying the sun and warm weather (mid 80’s) in the middle of winter.

One of the beaches that we went to with Nick and Heather became our favorite go to beach.
Anaehoomalu Bay

Also a very nice laid-back back restaurant that just reopened the first day we returned to the Bay.

Lave Lave Beach Club Restaurant.
We returned several more times.

What a great mid winter break but the time comes to leave.

The return flight was great and again everybody was very good about being responsible in the airport and on the plane.
