 Road Trip to Oregon Coast

(with International Travel on hold)

August 10, 2020 Thursday

Drive from Boise to Portland Oregon - Staying at the Kennedy School (McMenamins Hotels)

The Kennedy School, originally the John D. Kennedy Elementary School, is a former elementary school that has been converted to a hotel, movie theater and dining establishment in northeast Portland, Oregon. The facility is operated by the McMenamins chain. The hotel has 35 guestrooms, a brewery, four bars, and a restaurant.

Nick, Heather, Bill & Debbie

A great hotel very historic, what a great Idea, convert a 1915 elementary school into a hotel. Great stay and good food.

August 11, 2020 Friday

Very nice Drive to the Coast to Cannon Beach, Smoke from the fires kind of thick, but not effecting visibility for driving on the road.  Spent time poking around the shops in Cannon Beach very nice.

Aug 12, 2020 Saturday

Drive down the coast very nice, stopped at Several shops including Blue Heron French Cheese Shop in Tillamook, Pelican Brewer in Pacific City, all very nice.  Heather cooked us great dinners and we played games.

Aug 13, 2020 Sunday

Drove North from Rockaway to Gearhart, Cannon Beach, Seaside explored shops and brew pubs.  And a great walk on the beach

When to the Pub at McMinnemins in Gearhart with the whole gang

We also spent some time getting a car what was stuck off the beach and back to the parking lot.

Aug 14, 2020 Monday

Packed up - Diane drove back to Seattle - Nick & Heather drove back to Boise
Bill & Debbie moved on to Seaside to the Ebb Tide Hotel - a little rustic but very good for us - definitely a keeper for future trips.  Walked on the beach and explored the shops in town.  Then we were lazy and took it easy.  Ate at Mo's on the boardwalk, very good Halibut fish and chips and Clam Chowder  and Marionberry cobbler with vanilla ice cream.

Aug 15, 2020 Tuesday

Continued relaxing and walking on the beach and around town.  Ate at Finns Fish House outdoor until it started raining and then moved inside - very nice Beet Salad.

Aug 16, 2020 Wednesday

Drive North to Astoria toured the Flavel Mansion - Historical house, very interesting history.
Ate at Mo's in Astoria on the river,  more marionberry pie - also clam chowder and Halibut fish and chips - very good.

Back in Seaside another walk on the beach watched the sunset - the first one because of the thick marine layer.

Aug 17, 2020 Thursday

Slept in as we have been doing the whole trip and travel to Hood River to spent the night.

Headed home it was a little eventful, coming from the coast toward Portland/Hood River came around a curve - rocks all over the road - baseball and bigger sized - no where to go - tried to dodge them - one took out the right rim on the car - not the tire but the rim.  Put the donut/spare on and looked for a replacement at 4 places, but could not get one.  Stayed in Hood River and drove on to Boise at 55 mile per hour on the freeway.  Boy did be get passed a lot 😄 .  Gave Debbie and I more time to visit, which is what we would have been doing at home anyway so all is OK.  We also spent time talking about and doing research on future trips (Mainly the Southern Africa Rail/Train Trip - when we can do big travel again.
